Class DescriptionsPRE-DANCE PROGRAM
Note to parents: Today's Babies are tomorrow's Dancers....Train them properly from the very beginning. Dance Unlimited emphasizes the importance of protecting the physical bodies of our children. Therefore, NO formal dance training will begin until the age of 7. Until that age, bones are still “soft” and the skeletal structure can be permanently altered by introducing formal training too early. If you have further questions, please feel free to contact us for more information!
Creative Movement: Targeted for 3 & 4 year-olds, this class emphasizes basic coordination skills, helps to develop creativity of movement and introduces students to rhythm. This is a great opportunity to begin to teach children about the love of dance!
Mommy and Me Tap: A beginner tap class that gives the Mommy and Daughter/Son a chance to learn and dance together in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
Pre-Ballet: Designed for the 5/6 year-old, this is a basic ballet class without the physical stress to the skeletal structure. Students will learn valuable fundamentals in this class to better prepare them for basic ballet at the age of 7-8 years of age. Pre-Jazz: This class is aimed at 5-7 year-olds to prepare them for formal jazz training. Isolations, proper warm-up, and basic technique are introduced at this level.
Pre-Tap: Also geared for the 5/6 year-old, students will be introduced to basic tap skills and rhythm work at a slower pace to better prepare them for a basic tap class at the age of 7. Zumbatomic: K-8th grade A cardio dance fitness class for ages K-8th grade with Zumba steps and music geared toward kids. FORMAL DANCE PROGRAM
Students enrolled in the formal dance program will be placed in classes according to level rather than age. It is always our goal to equip each Dance Unlimited student with a solid foundation. Basic level classes are ideal for the recreational dancer and for the serious dance student. Those students who seek a more intense approach to their dance training however, will have the opportunity to advance to higher levels, add classes and eventually become an unlimited student (5 or more classes per week). It is always at the discretion of the instructor as to placement of each student.
Ballet: Minimum Age Requirement-7 years
All ballet classes follow a curriculum that is based on technique appropriate for each level. All classes begin with barre work and continue into adagio, progressions and allegro combinations. Curriculum includes both Cecchetti and Russian Methods. Jazz: Minimum Age Requirement-8 years
*It has been said that if it isn’t tap, ballet, or modern, then it must be jazz. While tracing the roots of jazz would lead a person to Ragtime and other popular styles, a closer look would also reveal a strong tie with early African American culture. While dance in general, is personal and is an effective means of communicating feelings, jazz dancing takes self expression even further by allowing for greater creativity. There are fewer boundaries to limit the dancer which means that a work can utilize several different rhythms. Though it seems less structured than ballet, modern and other forms of dance, there are stull rules. It should not be assumed that jazz dance can be learned without formal, structured classes. All jazz classes follow a curriculum that is based on technique appropriate for each level. Styles focus on Classical Jazz, but also include other styles (Fosse, Mattox, etc). One example of strong “Classical Jazz” would be the movie version of “Westside Story.” Modern/Contempory: This class is abstract movement based off of Graham, O'Donnel, and Limon techniques. Strong Ballet and Jazz background required.
Tap: Minimum Age Requirement-7 years

Two styles of dance (ie. waltz/swing, etc) are covered in each session and styles continually rotate throughout the year. Students do not need to have a partner. Beginner and intermediate levels are offered. (See Class Curriculum for list of dances taught) Pilates: Minimum Age Requirement-9 years Classes follow a curriculum that includes fundamentals and matwork. No prior experience is required, as students work at their own level. This class is ideal for students seeking to improve posture, strengthen the core (abdominal and back muscles) and improve overall flexibility and tone.
